Abstract
This study proposes a new concept to increase the work engagement of civil servants (PNS) by taking the role of ethnic culture. This study also analyzes the influence of resonant leadership, self-concept, and organizational awareness directly on ethnic culture, or indirectly through the mediation of ethnic culture on work engagement. The population in this study were 3,149 civil servants in Pangkalpinang City, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia. The sample of respondents selected was 344 by using proportional random sampling. The analytical tool used in data processing in this research is Structural Equation Modeling with AMOS version 22 program. The results showed that ethnic culture was important in mediating the relationship between resonant leadership, self-concept and organizational awareness on work engagement. Ethnic culture in this study has two dimensions and as an intervening variable, nggangung produces very good and influential criteria, while dak kawa nyusah produces sufficient criteria and does not affect work engagement. Work involvement is important for civil servants because work engagement is a positive state of mind at work which is characterized by enthusiasm, dedication, and absorption. The concept of nggangung and dak kawa nyusah ethnic culture in this study has never been studied by other researchers.
