Abstract

The aim of the study is determining whether there is a relationship between gratitude and anxiety in patients with type II diabetes mellitus. This study hypothesis that there is a relationship between gratitude and anxiety in patients with type II diabetes melitus. Respondents in this study were 100 people with type II diabetes mellitus who were diagnosed ≤ 8 years and aged ≤ 50 years. The sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling. The measuring instrument used is the scale gratitude which refers to the component of gratitude by Watkins, Woodward, Stone, and Kolts (2003) and the anxiety scale of Clark and Beck (2011). Data analysis using pearson's product moment correlation. The results of the analysis pearson's product moment correlation showed the value of R = -0.705 and p = 0.000 (p <0.05). Thus, the hypothesis in this study can be accepted where there is a negative (not unidirectional) relationship between gratitude and anxiety.
