Abstract

Three-phase induction motor is a mostly used electrical motor in industry. However, induction motors have several disadvantages, such as huge starting current causing voltage drop in a system that will interfere others parts in the system of one particular channel. Induction motor need a starting method, aiming to reduce huge starting current. The starting methods used in the research are Stator Resitor and Auto Transformer. The system are then simulated one by one using ETAP 12.6 Software, these starting methods are implemented in a 0,48 kV, 152 A, 90 kW induction motor with 0.82 power factor used to drive river pump motor. The simulation results show that Stator Resistor gives the highest starting current reduced with starting current 370 %, startng current with Auto Transformer methods is 340 %. Voltage drop with starting Startor Resistor method is 5 % and voltage drop with starting Auto Transformer method is 4 %.
