Abstract
Cempedak (Artocarpus integer) leaves contain phenolic and flavonoid compounds that have the ability to stimulate specific and nonspecific immune responses. This study aims to determine the immunomodulatory effects ethanol extract of Cempedak leaves against white rats induced Salmonella typhimurium. Immunity parameters measured were level leukocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, CD4 T cells, macroscopic and histopathology of the spleen. The white rats were divided into six groups. Normal (0.5 mL/kgBW Na-CMC), positive control (Stimuno), negative control (0.5 mL/kgBW Na-CMC), and the treatment groups with a therapeutic dose 200 mg/kgBW, 400mg/kgBW, and 600 mg/kgBW. S. typhimurium was injected intraperitoneally on day 8 with a dose 0.5 mL x 105 CFU/mL in all treatment group except the normal. Total phenolic content in the ethanol extract of cempedak leaves is 331.20 ± 17.96 mgGAE/g and total flavonoid content is 82.52 ± 4.55 mgQE/g extract. The result showed ethanol extract of cempedak leaves dose 600 mg/kgBW can increased the number of T CD4, leukocytes, lymphocytes monocytes and neutrophils compared to normal group. The higher the dose given, the less severe the necrosis. Keywords : Artocarpus integer, Salmonella typhimurium, immunomodulator, T CD4 cells, spleen
