Abstract

The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia has been high in the range of 30-40%. The prevalence of stunting in Ogan Ilir Regency in 2013 reached 32.67% and in 2019 it increased to 35,56%. The majority of mothers who have toddlers in Indonesia do not know the right way and time to give complementary foods to their toddlers so that this would have effects on children. The purpose of this study was to determine the association between complementary feeding time and mother’s knowledge of responsive feeding towards the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 12-24 months. This study was analytical observational research with cross sectional design. The samples of this study were 83 respondents chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected by using a questionnaire and analyzed by using the chi-square test. The results of the study showed that there was a significant association between complementary feeding time and incidence of stunting (p value 0,000) and there was a significant association between mother’s knowledge of responsive feeding and incidence of stunting (p value 0,001). It is necessary to provide nutrition counseling for mothers with toddlers aged 12-24 months by health workers on how to provide good feeding and parenting in order to improve the nutritional status of children and this could prevent stunting
