Abstract

This paper discuss about influence of voltage waveforms like sinusoid, rectangular and triangular with difference frequencies (50 Hz,100 Hz, 200 Hz, 400 Hz, and 800 Hz) to the magnitude of electrical stress in liquid dielectric. This test used a palm oil and an olive oil as a sampel with 350 ml of each sample. This test using a sphere-sphere electrode system with diameter of sphere is 13 mm and 1 mm electrode gap, this test used five samples in one frequency with five repetition, every test repetition has resting time for three minutes to release carbon from the oil, thus the oil will be in stable condition. This test used HVAC source within 0 – 4 kV with 100 V/s rise time voltage. From the result of this test it can infer that the bigger magnitude of frequencies, the greater electrical stress which is produced, and the getting faster of rise time of different waveform so the bigger electrical stress it’s get, the triangular waveform has the fastest rise time among the other waveform such as sinusoidal and rectangular waveform, also the triangular waveform have the sharpest peak thus it can produced more electrical stress and the triangular waveform have the fastest PD occur that can imply the degradation of a insulation material.
