Abstract
This paper discuss about partial discharge inception voltage characteristics of silicone rubber (SiR) sample in the form of square sheet with a size of 50 x 50 mm and thickness 0,35 mm were made in several layers and artificial voids with variations of 1, 2 and 3 voids. The measurement results showed a decrease in partial discharge inception voltage value in the sample without void which has a value of 2.547 kV compared to the sample which has 1 void, 2 voids, and 3 voids with each partial discharge inception voltage value of 5.085 kV, 5.348 kV and 1,143 kV. The percentage decrease in partial discharge inception voltage in the test sample without voids compared to the test sample having 1 void, 2 voids, and 3 voids respectively was 5.3%, 32.3% and 55.1%. Characteristics of the number of PD signals (n) showed positive cycles and negative cycles are relatively the same. The time for the occurrence of PD is getting shorter in the sample which has 1 void, 2 voids, and 3 voids at 2.344 ms, 1.918 ms and 1.544 ms respectively, while for the test sample without void it occured at 2.557 ms. This may occur because the increase in the number of voids in the sample causes an increase in the electric field strength which results in faster partial discharge.
