Abstract

A substation functions as the center of load regulation, the center of fault resurrection, the center of electric quantity recording, and the center of voltage's step up or down. Therefore, the grounding system of substation must has standards and applicable requirements to protect human safety, instruments, and environment that existing in substation area. A grounding system of substation instruments seizes Grid-Rod grounding system, because it can resist a high current. An analysis is needed toward grounding system in substation with using analytical calculation method and numerical calculation by using software. For analytical calculation, the basic standard that used is based on IEEE 80-2013 subtitled IEEE Guide for Safety in AC Substations Grounding. While for numerical calculation, the software that used is ETAP 12.6.0 version. This research aims to compare the safety aspect between analytical calculation and numerical calculation by using ETAP 12.6.0 software either a substation has an ideal condition for rocky or mountain ground area according to IEEE 80-2013 standard. On the other hand, it is needed to inform to public about the ideal safety condition of substation in rocky or mountain ground area condition with the parameters of step and touch potential of voltage. After being calculated with analytical calculation and numerical calculation by using ETAP 12.6.0 software, numerical calculation by using ETAP 12.6.0 software is more recommended in safety aspect because it is more efficient in analyzing to know which part has a big or small value of step and touch potential of voltage. An ideal condition of substation in rocky and mountain ground area has fulfilled the standards secure according to IEEE 80-2013 because Amin < AGI dan dmin < dGI, Em < Etouch70, Es < Estep70 and GPR < Etouch70.
