Abstract

The phenomenon of economic globalization has brought with the spread of capitalism which is marked by the increasing number of MNCs (Multinational Corporations) operating across national boundaries and growing rapidly. PT. Tanjungenim Lestari Pulp and Paper (TeL), which is a foreign investment company from Japan, namely Marubeni Corporation is a high quality and environmentally friendly world class factory. PT. TeL is committed to comply with all applicable regulations, preventing environmental pollution and continuously making efforts to improve environmental performance. Then PT. TeL implements the ISO 14001 environmental management system as a form of commitment in environmental management. The purpose of this study was to determine how the implementation of the internal environmental management system by PT. Tel. The methodology used was descriptive qualitative method. This data collection technique was carried out through the results of the data obtained through library researches and interviews. Testing the validity of the data was done by triangulation method. The results showed that PT. Tanjungenim Lestari has performed its internal environmental management system well, as evidenced by the blue rating obtained from the proper assessment by the Minister of the Environment and ISO 14001 certification from the SGS agency. There are notes for things are needed to be improved, such as training on the environment, not only for those with an interest, but for all employees so that the implementation of the environmental management system can be maximized, and communication of more relevant procedures and requirements to suppliers and contractors in the operational control of the environmental management system.
