Abstract

The main problem that often occurs in the shipping and fisheries industry is biofouling. Biofouling is the attachment and growth of adhering organisms to a substrate below the surface of the water. General measures used to control biofouling are still using antifouling paint made from tributyltin (TBT) which can be dangerous because it causes environmental pollution and also imposes on gastropods. NPA (Natural Product Antifoulant) is an antifouling product derived from natural ingredients. The use of NPA in the form of secondary metabolites from natural ingredients is thought to be effective for controlling biofouling. Rhizophora apiculata is one of the most common mangrove species found in mangrove ecosystems. Rhizophora apiculata has potential as a natural antifouling agent because it has secondary metabolites that have antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to determine what secondary metabolites were contained in the methanolic extract of R. apiculata leaves, to see the ability of the methanol extract of R. apiculata leaves to reduce adhesion and biofouling biomass and to determine the type of macrofouling present in Breech. Based on the research that has been done, it is concluded that the methanolic extract of R. apiculata leaves has the ability as an anti- macrofouling agent, by reducing the area of biofouling attachment as the concentration of the extract increases, namely 50.8%, 48.33%, 45.94%, 44.2%. , 42.68%, 40.68% and decreased biofouling biomass by 13.66, 11.86, 9.87, 8.36, 6.87, 5.03 for the control concentration, 250 ppm, 500 ppm, respectively. , 750 ppm, 1000 ppm and 1250 ppm. This is presumably because the secondary metabolite content of R. apiculata methanol extract is able to inhibit macrofouling attachment.
