Abstract
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY Thesis, 19 September 2021 Ni Putu Mitri Pasaryani; Guided by Dini Arista Putri, S.Si., M.PH Correlation of Home Environment and Community Behavior with the Incidence of ARI in Toddlers in the Work Area of the Karang Mukti Health Center viii + 76 pages, 20 tables, 7 pictures, 7 attachments ABSTRACT The incidence of ARI in Indonesia has increased every year, influenced by many factors, namely the physical environment of the house and community behavior. In Musi Banyuasin, 21,871 toddlers with ARI were found in 2019. In 2019 in the working area of the Karang Mukti Public Health Center, the number of ARI sufferers was in the first place, namely 640 cases. This study aims to see the relationship between the physical environment of the house and community behavior with the incidence of ARI in children under five in the working area of Karang Mukti Health Center. This study used a cross-sectional study design. Sampling was done by the purposive sampling method of as many as 88 respondents. Data analysis was carried out by univariate and bivariate, with bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test. The results of data analysis showed that there was no relationship between the incidence of ARI in children under five with ventilation (p-value = 0.418), natural lighting (p-value = 0.694), room temperature (p-value = 0.622), humidity (p-value = 0.083) , floor type (p-value=0.455), wall type (p-value=0.458), occupancy density p-value=(1,000), smoking status of family members (p-value=0.320), and window opening habits (p- value=0.546). Environmental conditions that did not meet the requirements could be the factor for a person to experience the incidence of ARI. It is hoped that the community, especially mothers of toddlers, pay attention to the cleanliness of the physical environment of the house from dust particulates, routinely open windows every day, add glass tiles, keep toddlers away from family members who smoke, and plant trees in the yard.
