Abstract
The beginning of 2020 was a dark start for various countries due to the crisis stemming from the spread of the Covid-19 virus. In Indonesia, the impact of the Covid-19 virus crisis has become a crucial problem that has caused panic in the community. The handling of the Covid-19 virus from the pre-crisis period to the initial crisis carried out by the government became a concern in the community, one of the important figures who was popularly reported by the media was Terawan Agus Putranto as Minister of Health in Indonesia. The government's actions in handling the Covid-19 virus in Indonesia from January to May 2020 are of concern in this study. Through the digital mass media Tempo. co and Kompas.com, researchers found hundreds of news stories which were then reduced to review using theory Situational Crisis Communication from Timothy W. Coomb, to find out how Terawan's strategy for handling the Covid-19 virus was understood through the news on media. The research method used is qualitative content analysis to find the meaning behind the news on the handling of the Covid-19 virus by Terawan. As a result, reinforcing/bolstering strategies were found to seek support in the community, followed by Deny Strategies which denied the existence of a crisis to be the dominant strategy carried out by Terawan. These two strategies serve as a shield for the Minister of Health to maintain its reputation. Keywords: Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto, Crisis Communication, and theory Situational Crisis Communication
