Abstract

Research had been carried out on the making of the anti acne peel off gel mask using kaffir lime leaves ethanol extract as active ingredient. Maceration method was used to extract the crude extract. Concentrated crude extract’s chemical compound was determined using phytochemical analysis and GC-MS. Its antibacterial activity was tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes using well diffusion method. The crude extract concentration of 10%, 20% and 30% were then incorporated with gel mask base. The product’s physical-chemical properties were tested based on SNI such as: organoleptic test, drying time, pH, caused of irritation and water content. The masks’ antibacterial activity and chemical properties were also tested. Concentrated crude extract of 30% has weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (8,3 mm) and moderate towards Propionibacterium acnes (12 mm) whereas peel off gel mask with same crude extract concentration has weak antibacterial activity respectively (<10 mm). The physical-chemical properties of the mask were in accordance with SNI which resulted in pH ≥ 5, drying time 10-11 minutes, water content <10%, non irritating, midpoint dark green color and distinct aroma. The masks still have the active ingredients such as citronellal and 8-hydroxyneomenthol.
