Abstract

Evaluation of land suitability is useful for determining locations that have positive characteristics in relation to the success of their production or use, systematic grouping of land into certain units according to characteristics that are potential and obstacles to sustainable use. The purpose of this study was to determine the limiting factors that affect the growth of sengon plants and to assess the level of land suitability in the peatlands of Sriwijaya Botanical Gardens, Bakung Village. This research was conducted using a detailed survey method with a map scale of 1: 5,000 and analysis of peat soil samples was carried out in the laboratory, namely N-Total, P-Available, Potassium, soil acidity, water content, soil pore space and bulk density. Sampling was carried out using the grid method, 13 samples of peat soil were taken based on predetermined points on the map with a research area of ± 13 ha. Sampling was taken for laboratory analysis at a depth of 0-30 cm using a peat drill, while for monitoring the maturity and thickness of the peat, drilling was carried out until it met the substratum. The results showed that in each observation unit the level of land suitability did not match the limiting factors, namely nutrient retention factors and root media. After providing input that aims to improve the quality of the land so that the distribution in each dominant soil map unit is limited by the depth of peat and peat maturity.
