Abstract

SUMMARY SYAHRUL MUHAMMAD ATTANZIL. The Evaluation of Net Assimilation Rate, Crop Growt Rate, and Harvest Index on F6 Crossing of Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) With Curly Pepper (Capsicum annum L.) As Selection Criteria (Supervised by MUHAMMAD AMMAR). This study was conducted to evaluate the growth and physiological characteristics of F6 progeny which is the expectation of the result of crossbreeding cayenne pepper and curly chilly to obtain a high yield potential, resistance to disease, and a high harvest index. This research was conducted in March 2021 – August 2021 at the Research Station of Agriculture college of Sriwijaya University. The selected F6 progeny lines of cayyene pepper X curly chilli crossing and two check cultivar were grown in RCBD with 3 replications. Variables measured were plant fresh weight, leaf area, plant dry weight, fruit fresh weight, fruit dry weight, and plant total dry weight. The three variables were calculated to measure NAR, CHR, and HI. The results of the study indicate that crop growth rate and harvest index can be used as a determinant of the potential yield of F6 from crosses of cayenne pepper and curly chili as selection criteria by looking at the fresh weight and dry weight of the planted fruit and some growth characters. .G1 had growth and physiological characters that were quite good with almost equal to the average value of the comparison variety G4. This indicate by the average value of several parameters, namely Plant Fresh Weight (15 DAP), Leaf Area (15 DAP), Plant Dry Weight (15 DAP), Fruit Fresh Weight, Fruit Dry Weight, and NAR. Meanwhile, the G2 had the physiological characteristics of good growth by exceeding the average value of G4 on fruit fresh weight and fruit dry weight, but had not been able to go beyond the G3 as varieties.
