Abstract

The synthesis of layered double hydroxide Mg/Fe and polyoxometalate H3[aPW12O40]•nH2O has been done. The intercalation compounds were characterized using XRD and spectrophotometer FT-IR. The result of characterization using XRD shows the successful intercalation of layered double hydroxide with polyoxometalate H3[a-PW12O40]•nH2O compound, there is an increase of the interlayer spasing of 4.39 to 4.75 Ǻ. The characterization of the intercalated compound using FT-IR spectrophotometer shows a good intercalation process.Layered double hydroxide Mg/Fe intercalated polyoxometalate H3[aPW 12O40]•nH2O can be applied as an effective adsorbent to adsorbed Cd(II) metal ion with optimum conditions at pH 7, reaction time 50 minutes and at temperature 60 °C. The intercalated layered double hydroxide Mg/Fe resulted in a 0.082 min -1 adsorption rate, the adsorption capacity at an optimum temperature of 60 ° C with 0.746 mg/g and the largest adsorption energy was 9.73 kJ / mol.
