Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon that researchers found in the field regarding students who are often late in collecting school assignments due to lack of confidence in their own abilities. Lack of confidence in their abilities makes students begin to behave in procrastinating completing assignments, being late in collecting assignments or not being able to complete school assignments within the specified time limit. This study aims to describe the relationship between self-confidence and academic procrastination of students of XI UPT SMA Negeri 3 Musi Rawas. The sample used in this study were 64 people taken from a population of 178 people using proportional random sampling technique . This research uses correlation research method. The data collection tool used in this study is a psychological scale about self-confidence and academic procrastination. The data analysis technique in this study used theformula Pearson Product Moments. Based on the results of data analysis, there is a significant negative correlation (r -0.471; with a significance <0.05) between the self-confidence variable and the academic procrastination variable, namely 0.000 and the significance value of sig (2-tailed) is below or smaller than 0.05/ 0.01 (value is 0.000). It can be concluded that there is a negative correlation between self-confidence and academic procrastination, which means that the higher the student's self-confidence, the lower the academic procrastination carried out by the student and vice versa.
