Abstract
The low pH of catfish rearing media can threaten survival and growth. One of the efforts used to increase the pH value can be done by liming. The application of dolomite lime has been investigated to increase the pH of water and soil in catfish ponds. The purpose of this study was to determine the best dose of dolomite lime to increase the pH of water and soil of fish ponds that using swamp soil and water as media of culture and its effect on the survival and growth of catfish (Pangasius sp.). This research was conducted at the Experimental Pond Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries. Water Quality Analysis was carried out at the Fisheries Basic Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Department of Fisheries, and the Center for Environmental Health and Disease Control Engineering, Palembang, South Sumatra. The research was conducted from September to November 2020. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 replications. The treatments given were the different doses of dolomite lime (equivalent to CaCO3) of 8,000 kg.ha-1 (P1), 10,000 kg.ha-1 (P2) and 12,000 kg.ha-1 (P3). The results of this study indicated that the best treatment was dolomite lime in ponds with a dose of 12,000 kg.ha-1 equivalent to CaCO3 (P3) that increased the pH of swamp soil from 3.40 to 7.37 and water pH from 3.67 to 7.58, with water temperature 26.6-31.8oC, dissolved oxygen 3.40-4.80 mgL-1, and ammonia 0.20-0.26 mgL-1. The P3 also resulted in 100% survival, 6.63 cm absolute length growth, 11.66 g absolute weight growth and 83.59% feed efficiency. Keyword: dolomite, swamp, catfish, pH, liming.
