Abstract

Flavonoid compounds have antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes, that commonly found in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Microparticles in range size 1-10 µm can increase drug delivery into hair follicles and sebaceous glands so the flavonoid compounds can reach the desired target. Flavonoid compounds have thermolability characteristic and easily being oxidation. This characteristic made flavonoids needed to encapsulate with polymer to prevent degradation. Jackfruit leaves extract has a total flavonoid of 36,217 mg/g. This research aimed to decide the effect in variations of gelatin polymer concentration in the formulation. Microparticles gelatin was made by using the nanoprecipitation method in 3 formulas to obtain the optimum formula with the highest %EE. The %EE value obtained in the formula 1, 2, and 3 were 73.953%; 77.520%; and 81.747% consecutively. The result of characterization of optimum formula (formula 3) showed the value of diameter particles, PDI, and zeta potential value were 5.348 µm; 0.382; and -11.15 mV consecutively. The analyzed result of spectra IR microparticles gelatin showed the entrapment flavonoids formed with higher intensity peaks at 1652.65 and 1533.24 cm-1. The results of stability testing in optimum formula using heating cooling method showed a decreased in contents of 3.029% and organoleptic changed with some floating particles were formed with some deposits, solution color paler also there’s no changed in odor.
