Abstract

Background: Hydroxyapatite is one of the bioceramic materials with the chemical formula Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 which is included in the apatite mineral compound consisting of calcium and phosphorus. Synthesis of hydroxyapatite can use natural ingredients specifically snakehead fish (Channa Striata) scales. Purpose: Purpose of this research is to know the different of hydroxyapatite characteristic from snakehead fish scales using variation of calsination temperatures. Materials and Methods: This research synthesized snakehead fish scales by using calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) precursors as well as adding NaOH solution. The result of hydroxiapatite precipitate of snakehead fish scales then calcinated varies on 700⸰C, 800⸰C, dan 900⸰C. Structure characterization crystallinity degree of hydroxyapatite determined by x-ray diffraction (XRD). Results: XRD analyze characterization show hydroxyapatite crystallinity degree through for temperature of 700⸰C with 67.7% crystallinity degree, temperature of 800⸰C with 79.2% crystallinity degree, and temperature of 900⸰C with 58.5% crystallinity degree. Conclusion: The temperature of 800⸰C is the optimum temperature for synthesis the snakehead skin scales because it has the highest crystallinity degree. Keyword: Sneakhead fish scale, Cristallinity degree, hydroxyapatite, temperature of calsination, x-ray diffraction.
