Abstract

Background: Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Tumor microenvironment (TME) is thought to play an important role in stimulating angiogenesis which can be assessed by measuring microvessel density (MVD). MVD is one of the most useful prognostic markers for monitoring progression and survival in patients with various types of cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between clinicohistopathological characteristics and microvessel density in DLBCL in the Anatomical Pathology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya /RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang period 2017 – 2021. Methods: Paraffin block diagnosed as a DLBCL case and stained immunohistochemically (IHC) with anti-CD34 marker at the Anatomical Pathology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Swirijaya/RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the period 2017 – 2021 and has complete clinicohistopathological data used as the sample in this study. MVD was identified by observing endothelial cell morphology which appeared brown on slides stained with anti-CD34. MVD will then be associated with clinicohistopathological characteristics and statistically analyzed. Results: In this study, the results of DLBCL were more diagnosed in the age category <60 years (66,7%), male gender (60%), nodal location (53,3%), centroblastic category as the most morphological variant (933,%), while the molecular subtypes of GCB and non-GCB obtained the same results between the two (50%). The distribution of high MVD tends to be owned by samples with categories: age <60 years, male gender, at nodal location, with centroblastic morphological variants, and with non-GCB molecular subtypes. No significant results were obtained between the clinicohistopathological characteristics of DLBCL and MVD. Conclusion: There was no statistically significant correlation between clinicohistopathological characteristics and microvessel density in DLBCL.
