Abstract

This research is entitled “Development of the Anna Kumari Dance Studio in 14 Ulu Hamlet, Seberang Ulu II Subdistrcit, Palembang City in 2005-2015 (Material Contribution to the South Sumatera Local Wisdom Course)”. The problems in this study are how the development of the Anna Kumari Dance Studio in 14 Ulu Hamlet, Seberang Ulu II District, Palembang City and how the obstacles faced by the Anna Kumari Dance Studio and how to overcome them. The purpose of this study is to explain the development of the Anna Kumari Dance Studio in 14 Ulu hamlet, Seberang Ulu II District, Palembang City in 2005- 2015. The method used in this research is the historical method through several stages, namely heuristics, source criticsm, interpretation, and historiography. The data collection stage was carried out through library research and interviews with the management of the Anna Kumari Dance Studio in an analytical manner assisted by antrophology and sociology. The result of this study indicate that the Anna Kumari Dance Studio was founded on March 11, 1966 by Anna Kumari on KHA Azhari Street, 14 Ulu hamlet, Seberang Ulu II District, Palembang City. In the period 2005-2015 this studio is still experiencing development as evidenced by following several major agendas both at national and even international levels. The next result found several obtacles faced by the Anna Kumari dance studio, namely the budget, recruiting new dancers, lack of interest from the male dancer community, and introducing dance, especially traditional dance to the younger generation.
