Abstract

Climate has two main elements,namely temperature and rainfall. As part of the tropics, Indonesia has low temperature variations, but high rainfall variations. The Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has two sources of remote sensing data, namely weather radar and satellites. There are non-precipitation particles that can interfere with the quality of radar data, so it is necessary to have QC (Quality Control) on radar data in an effort to estimatte rainfall. This research was carried out at BMKG Palembang using ARG/AWS data and weather radar data from January to October 2019. The data processing uses the Rainbow 5.49.0 application, notepad ++ and Microsoft Excel. Validation of data processing result using Root Mean Square Error (RSME), Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and cross correlation. The result showed that the Automatic Rain Gauge/Automatic Weather Station (ARG/AWS) meansurement data located in zone 1 and zone 2 had better performance in the accuracy of the rainfall estimation compared to the ARG/AWS measurement data in zone 3. The application of Quality Control was proven to improve the quality of the estimated rainfall indicated by increasing correlation value and decreasing error value with validation result tends to under estimate. It is suggested that the lag time affects the correlation value. Another cause of the low correlation value is that the radar reads the water vapor content at a certain height which has the potential to become rainfall, while the ARG/AWS measures the rainfall that has fallen to the earth’s surface.
