Abstract

Overall survival is affected by several factors, such as sociodemographic factors, clinicopathology, and the treatment obtained by the patient. The data about the overall survival of stage III breast cancer patients in Indonesia is still very limited. This study determines the overall survival and the factor which can affect the survival of stage III breast cancer patients. This study was a retrospective study. Patients who were first diagnosed with breast cancer from January 1st, 2018 to August 31th, 2018 at RSUP DR. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang were studied. The primary outcome of this study was overall survival. The sociodemographic, clinicopathology, and the treatment factors were analyzed to identify the independent variables associated with the overall survival by using Kaplan-Meier and cox proportional hazard regression. In this study, 78 samples were included. The 3-year overall survival for stage III breast cancer was 71%. Multivariate analysis showed that there was no significant correlation between the histological type of invasive nonductal carcinoma (hazard ratio (HR) = 0,195, 90% CI = 0,036-1,069) and overall survival. Patients with stage IIIB (HR = 5,802, 90% CI = 1,071-31,443) and IIIC (HR = 14,677, 90% CI = 1,879-114,632) breast cancer also the patients who did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy (HR = 2.133, 90% CI = 1,033-4,403) had a significant correlation with low overall survival. Stage IIIB and IIIC breast cancer patients and the patient who did not receive adjuvant chemotherapy had poor survival outcomes.
