Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis vegetasi yang terdapat di area penelitian Mile Posi (MP) 19 PT. Freeport Indonesia yang ditinjau dari struktur dan komposisi vegetasinya. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret 2010 sampai dengan Mei 2010, bertempat di PT. Freeport Indonesia, Kabupaten Mimika, Papua. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode jalur atau transek. Pada tiap-tiap transek dibuat plot ukuran 20 x 20 m untuk tingkat pohon, 10 x 10 m untuk tingkat tiang, 5x5 untuk tingkat pancang dan 2 x 2 m untuk tingkat semai-tumbuhan bawah. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan 88 spesies yang tergolong dalam 44 famili. Pandanus lauterbachii, Campnosperma brevipetiolata, dan Ficus elastica mendominasi pada tingkat pohon, jenis Macaranga aleuritoides, Tomonius timon dan Glochidion macrocarpa mendominasi pada tingkat tiang, pada tingkat pancang speseis yang mendominasi adalah Timonius timon, Glochidion macrocarpa dan Premna corymbosa serta jenis Phragmithes karka, Equisetirm debile dan Dryopteris arida mendominasi pada tingkat semai dan tumbuhan bawah. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah komposisi spesies pada area penelitian Mile Post (MP) 19 terdiri 88 spesies yang tergolong dalam 44 famili. Indeks keanekaragaman terendah pada area penelitian adalah tingkat pancang. Sedangkan indeks keanekaragaman tertinggi adalah tingkat semai dan tumbuhan bawah dilanjutkan dengan tingkat pohon dan tiang. Kata kunci : vegetasi, lahan kering, pengendapan tailing
