Abstract

COVID-19 can attack or infect anyone regardless of age, including children. The lack of information regarding the prevention of COVID-19 through health protocols is one of the causes of the high number of cases of COVID-19 in children. One of the efforts that can be done in overcoming these problems is by conducting health education through storytelling for elementary school children. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of storytelling on knowledge and attitudes about the COVID-19 health protocol in grade IV and V elementary school children at SD Negeri 5 Talang Kelapa. This study used a pre-experimental research design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample in this study amounted to 54 respondents who were taken using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection was obtained from respondents using a knowledge and attitude questionnaire. The results of the knowledge analysis using the Marginal Homogeneity Test show that there is an effect of storytelling on the knowledge of elementary school students about the COVID-19 health protocol with a p-value of 0.000. The results of the analysis using McNemar showed that there was an effect of storytelling on the attitudes of school children about the COVID-19 health protocol with a p-value of 0.000. Health education through effective storytelling can increase the knowledge and attitudes of school-age children because it attracts attention and interest so that it can be easily understood. Storytelling can also be recommended as a method of health education for elementary school children.
