Abstract
Surgery is the definitive treatment that can be done for cataracts at this time. One of the complications that can occur after cataract surgery is Surgically Induced Astigmatism. Several factors that can influence surgically induced astigmatism are incision location, incision size, type of intraocular lens, and location of intraocular lens. Phacoemulsification is a cataract surgery technique that can be performed through small incisions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of post-cataract astigmatism using phacoemulsification technique. This research is an observational-analytic study with a cross-sectional study approach. The number of samples was 49 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data obtained through medical records. Data analysis using Chi-Square test. Most of the characteristics of the subjects were found based on the location of the temporal incision (61.2%), the size of the incision 3 mm (95.9%), the type of 1-piece intraocular lens (93.9%), and the location of the intraocular lens in the bag performed on all patients. A total of 51% of patients experienced improvement, 2% of patients did not change, and 46.9% of patients experienced a decrease in postoperative astigmatism. There was no statistically significant relationship between incision site (p=1,000), incision size (p=1,000), and intraocular lens type (p=1,000) on postoperative astigmatism. The relationship between the location of the intraocular lens and postoperative astigmatism is unknown. At one week after surgery, post-phacoemulsification patients experienced more postoperative astigmatism improvement compared to patients who experienced a decrease and did not experience postoperative astigmatism changes. There was no relationship between astigmatism and incision location, incision size, and type of intraocular lens in post-phacoemulsification patients. Keywords: astigmatism, phacoemulsification, incision location, incision size, intraocular lens design, intraocular lens position
