Abstract

Kissing gourami culture has begun to be developed to reduces the dependence on natural catches. There’s many factors that are influenced fish culture, one of those are availability of feed that sufficiently in quantity and quality. Protein is an important nutrient which not only plays a role for supporting fish growth but also determine the price of feed. Protein requirement for each fish needs to be known as a basis in formulating feed. If feed protein is optimum, then the utilization of protein for growth will be maximum. This research aims to find out the level of optimum feed protein for kissing gourami. This reasearch was conducted at the Fisheries Basic Laboratory, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This reasearch was carried out in March-April 2021. This study used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications. The treatmens for kissing gourami were given in different levels of feed protein, consist of 25% (P0), 30% (P1), 35% (P2), 40% (P3), 45% (P4). Kissing gourami with initial body length of 4.81+0.12 cm and initial body weight of 1.69+0.10 g were stocked in aquarium with density of 2 fish L-1. Kissing gourami reared for 30 days. During the rearing time, fish were fed according to the treatments as much as 5% of body weight every day with frequency of three times a day. Parameter in this study include absolute growth (weight and lenght), feed efficiency, protein efficiency ratio, survival and rearing water quality (temperature pH, dissolved oxygen and ammonia) of kissing gourami. The result of analysis varience showed that feed with different protein level had a significant effect on absolute weight growth, protein efficiency ratio, and feed efficiency, but have no significant effect on absolute length growth and survival of kissing gourami. The feed protein level of 35% (treatment P2) was the best treatment with weight growth of 0.45 g, length growth of 0.24 cm, protein efficiency ratio of 0.49 and feed efficiency 17.11%. Parameters of rearing water quality were temperature ranged from 26-30ᵒC, pH 6-7.5, dissolved oxygen ranged from 3.11-6.28 mg L-1 and ammonia ranged from 0.001-0.468 mg L-1.
