Abstract
Continuous trade and overexploitation are a form of unsustainable use of natural resources and can lead to extinction. One of the causes is the internationally illegal trade of endangered species. In this international trade, Pangolin is the animal that is most in-demand, while the status of pangolin itself is categorized as a crisis (Critically Endangered). The results of this study indicated that the protection of internationally illegal trade of endangered animals in Indonesia was carried out through the ratification of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) which was later ratified by Presidential Decree no. 43 of 1978. Indonesia, the Country that has ratified CITES, has the obligation and responsibility to implement the provisions stipulated by the convention, like issuing laws on conservation, so that Indonesia has the right to follow up, control, or prevent disputes regarding the wildlife trade in Indonesia. In addition, Indonesia is also pursuing policies to protect endangered animals nationally and internationally in tackling the international illegal trade in endangered pangolins from Indonesia to Tiongkok.
