Abstract

Difficulty eating is a refusing behavior when consuming a type of food that usually occurs in children with the amount and type based on age. Difficulty eating can cause children to lack micro and macronutrients that can interfere with physical growth, namely low weight and height and impaired cognitive growth. The purpose of the study was to look at the behavior of mothers in food selection with the incidence of difficulty eating in toddlers. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. With 36 informants consisting of 18 mothers with toddlers aged 12-36 months and representatives from neighbors 18 people. Selection of informants based on the principle of suitability and adequacy of information. The results showed that the mothers had good knowledge and understanding. there is 1 toddler with a frequency of eating <2 times a day due to allergies and 2 toddlers giving a negative response when eating. Parenting patterns are applied well and the interaction between mother and child is well established. All toddlers receive routine immunizations according to the schedule. Children's activities are classified as active (88.8%), exclusive breastfeeding is 61.1%. The respondent's economy is middle class and most of the mothers are not working. In conclusion, it is necessary to monitor the health center related to low child weight so that it can be handled immediately. Increase maternal awareness regarding the importance of exclusive breastfeeding as well as providing education about eating patterns or varied menus.
