Abstract

Background: Rhegmatogeneous Retinal Detachment (RRD is one of eye disorders which can result in a decrease of eye function. For now, it is still very rare to find data which discusses the association between risk factors and the incidence of rhegmatogeneous retinal detachment. It is also very rare to find paper that discussed which risk factors are most strongly related to RRD and no one spesifically discussed about it in Palembang. This is why the author decide to choose “Association Between Risk Factors with Rhegmatogeneous Retinal Detachment at Sriwijaya Hospital Palembang” as the title of the research. Method: This research was an observational analytical with a cross-sectional design. The sample was taken by a secondary data survey from medical records with total sampling techniques and continued with primary data from online telephone interview results in retinal detachment patients during January-June 2021. Results: In a six-month period, 81 retinal detachment samples. The results showed that 60 people (74.1%) were regmatogen ablasios retinal and 21 people (25.9%) were non-regmatogen retinal ablasios. In 60 patients with ablasio retinal regmatogen, the highest proportion occurred at the age of ≥45 years (75%), male sex (63.3%), large use of glasses ≥ -6.00 D (36.7%), had myopia (83.3%), had a history of cataract surgery (46.7%), had a history of ocular trauma (35%), had a history of diabetes mellitus (28.3%). Finding its association with incidence of rhegmatogeneous retinal detachment, p value <0,005 is found in association with age (p=0,041), myopia (p=0,032), history of cataract surgery (p=0,049), and history of ocular trauma (p=0,017). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between age, myopia, history of cataract surgery, and history of ocular trauma with rhegmatogeneous retinal detachment. There was no significant relationship between sex, large eyeglass wear, and a history of diabetes mellitus with the incidence of rhegmatogeneous retinal detachment. The strongest independent predictor variable affecting the incidence of ablasio retinal regmatogen was ocular trauma.
