Abstract
LBW (Low Birth Weight) is an important indicator of reproductive health and public health in the community and is the main predictor of the cause of death in the first month of the birth baby. The prevalence of LBW worldwide is still around 10-20% of all babies born every year and infant mortality is 20 times greater in LBW infants compared with those who are not LBW. At Puskesmas Padang Selasa Kota Palembang, the prevalence of LBW in 2014 increased by 1.9% to 3.9% in 2015. This research aims to determine the relations of maternal age, maternal nutritional status, maternal education, mother’s nutrition knowledge, maternal employment, family income and maternal physical activity with LBW in the working area of Puskesmas Padang Selasa Palembang City. This research using a case control study. The sample in this research was 60 maternity mothers which consist of case sample that is 20 maternity mothers with LBW and control sample that is 40 maternity mothers with normal birth weight. Method of sampling is purposive sampling. Analysis data was performed using univariate and bivariate statistics using chi Square test. The result of statistical research have significant relationship between maternal age (p=0,000;OR=18,5), maternal nutritional status (p=0,007;OR=5,762), and mother’s nutritional knowledge (p=0,044;OR=3,667) with the LBW. For the maternal education variable, maternal employment, family income, and maternal physical activity are not statistically related. It is expected that health workers will continue do educational activities to pregnant women during antenatal care through KIE, especially about maternal nutritional status and open pregnant mother's class in society.
