Abstract

The problem in this research is how the Society Labelling against the statu s of young widow. This study aimed to know about the process of society labelling toward status of young widow community that in the town of cambai prabumulih city. To analiyze the problem then used theory labeling of howards S.Becker. This research was using the descriptive qualitative method through non participation,observation techniques, interviews and documentation. The location of the research was conducted in the prabumulih cambai village city. The research informants were chosen purposively by taking 15 informans consisting of 10 main informants and 4 supporting informant. This resultof this study indicates that the existence of the Society Labelling againts status of young widows caused by action which is considered deviant. The act of widow status deemend deviant by the community is inseparable from the process of detection, definition and response. Throught this process the comunity began labeling the status of young widows in accordance with what the community felt when dealing, interacting and even associating with the status of young widow. From the labeling results a new label will appear which is given to the status of a young widow which is a negative label. The results of labeling the status of young widows have an effect on the status of the young widow herself. The consequences of psychological labeling and social consequences.
