Abstract

The objectives of this research was to study the effects of merawan wood ash (Hopea sp.) on the development of Sitophilus zeamais Motsch feeding on maize grain in a laboratory. The research was conducted in Entomological Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, from September to December 2004.The research was arranged in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) withAll data collected were analyzed using Analysis of Variance followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The parameters observed were adult mortality, adult population and damage intensity.four treatments and six replications.The highest percentage of adult mortality was found two weeks afterinfestation in the treatment of merawan wood ash at a doses of 7.5 g/100 g maizegrain amounted to 100%, while the control value was 50.83%. The highest percentage of adult emergence was of control amounted to 27.33% while the lowestwas of treatment at a doses of 7.5 g merawan wood ash. The highest damage intensity was of control amounted to 7.24% while the lowest was of treatment ata doses of 7.5 g merawan wood ash.
