Abstract

The objective of study was to know the effectivity of B. bassiana isolate from Bogor and Pagaralam in-half ripe rice media against third-instar larvae of P. xylostella. The experiment was started from January 2004 until February 2005 in the Entomological and Phytopatological Laboratories, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Agriculture Faculty of Sriwijaya University.P. xylostella (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) is an important pest for Brassicaceae. The pest has oligophagus characteristic which specifically in consuming the plant from Brassicaceae family. Its short development with high fecundity cause this pest is very dangerous to agriculture. Entomopatogen of B. bassiana is a fungus which has been used to control pest especially for Lepidopteran and Coleopteran.The research used 10 isolates from Bogor and Pagaralam. i.e. PDj (from P. xylostella), PD2 (from Crysodeixis chalcites), PD8 (from C. chalcites), PD9B (from C. chalcites), CCW3 (from C. chalcites), BBL (from Hypothenemus hampei), CH (from Conomorpha cramerella), CP J W (from H. hampei), WC (from Nilaparvata lugens), WSJT (from H. hampei). The parameter of research were mortality of larvae, time of death and behaviour of larvae. The data were tabulated and descripted. The result showed that highest mortality of larvae, 24 hours after application, was 55% showed on PD9B isolate (Pagaralam) and 48 hours afteraplication was 73.34%, Showed on WSJT (Bogor). The Lethal Time (LT50) was 19.27 hours accured on PD9B isolate (Pagaralam). After application, larvae changed in behaviour, less in consuming food and then die. The hypothesis was denied, because PD2 was not an affective isolate. The effective one was WSJTisolate.
