Abstract

Fabrication, performance and durability test of Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) based on Pt/c and Pd/c catalysts have been carried out. MEA was made using Catalyst Coated Membrane (CCM) method. The catalyst coating was carried out by spraying catalyst onto membrane (MEA 1) and with capton (MEA 2). MEA was characterized using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method to measure Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) value also Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) to measure the conductivity. Performance test of the MEA was carried out by measuring the OCV value, optimum power density and durability. MEA 1 has ECSA and conductivity value are 5.916 cm2/g and 0.361 × 10-5 S/cm, while MEA 2 has 1.1194 cm2/g and 0.156 x 10-5 S/cm. The OCV of MEA 1 was 0.869 V and optimum power density was 0.2756 W at 26 mA/cm2. While in MEA 2 has 0.786 V and 0.1118 W at 13.6 mA/cm2. The durability test was carried out to MEA 1, it was tested along 6 hours. It has 0.027 V voltage drop which has 0.398 V initial voltage and 0.371 V final voltage. Based on OCV value, performance test and optimum power MEA was better than MEA 2.
