Abstract
Banana is one of horticultural plants from the widely cultivated fruit group which often experiences a decrease in production due to Banana Bunchy Top Virus (BBTV) which is transmitted by an insect vector called Pentalonia nigronervosa (Hemiptera: Aphididae). This disease is a disease that causes banana plants to become stunted and unable to produce fruit. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the biology of banana aphids live on Pontianak taro as an alternative host plant and the efficiency of transmission of Banana Banchy Top Virus by infective P. nigronervosa passed on Pontianak taro for several periods of time. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with 4 treatments and 5 replications where each treatment unit consisted of 3 banana plants. Treatment 1 was a control, treatment 2 was P. nigronervosa passed on Ppontianak taro plant for 24 hours, treatment 3 was infective P. nigronervosa passed for feeding activities on the pontianak taro plant as a passing plant for 48 hours, while treatment 4 was infecteive P. nigronervosa was given the opportunity to freed on Pontianak taro plant for 72 hours. The resuts showed that P. nogronervosa could grow and develop on Pontianak taro but tha plant could not reduce the efficiency of BBTV transmission by P. nigronervosa after the infective vectors were passed on the plant for up to 72 hours.
