Abstract

Horticultural crop, such as French bean, Chinese cabbage and bitter cucumber are agricultural commodities significantly contribute to farmers’ economy. Instead of fulfilling the needs of vitamines and minerals, the crops can also support the economy of a coi8untyry in concern. The cultivation of french bean, Chinese cabbage and bitter cucumber under polyculture pattern is expected to be able to increase the diversity of phytophagous insect and suppress the potency of phytophagous pest insect . the research was aimed at studying the effects cropping pattern of french bean, Chinese cabbage and bitter cucumber under monoculture and polyculture patterns and on the diversity of phytophagous insect. The research was conducted for 7 weeks a time interval of 7 days. The phytophagous species visiting the research plots were trapped using . pan trap and pitfall trap. All derived species were collected and counted as well as identified. Based on morphological characteristics. The results showed that phytophagous insect species found in the experimental plots, both in monoculture and polyculture pattern, was the same, amounted to 17 species.
