Abstract
Pada zaman sekarang pipa banyak digunakan dalam dunia perindustrian pipa baja sering mengalami kerusakan pengkaratan berupa korosi. Korosi merupakan proses terjadinya pengurangan kualitas baja yang terjadi secara kimia. Tujuan dari penelitian ialah untuk mengetahui pengaruh proses quenching pada pipa baja karbon terhadap laju korosi dengan memvariasikan jenis pipa yang diprotek dan tidak diprotek serta diberi perlakuan dan tanpa perlakuan dengan teknik penelitian eksperimen. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan laju korosi paling cepat terjadi pada spesimen 3 yaitu pipa baja karbon rendah tanpa perlakuan dengan persentase kerusakan 90,04% dan nilai kehilangan beratnya 18,55 gram, sedangkan laju korosi paling lambat yaitu pipa galvanis dengan persentase kerusakan 52,18% dan nilai kehilangan beratnya 17,07 gram. Hasil penelitian ini proses quenching berpengaruh pada pipa baja karbon rendah (tidak diprotek) karena menggunakan media pendingin berupa oli sehingga menyebabkan perkembangan laju korosi lebih lambat.
