Abstract
In the current state of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Transmusi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which is one of the modes of transportation often used by the people of Palembang, so it is necessary to impose passenger restrictions in order to maximize health protocols in public transportation. This study uses a monitoring system that can and is easy to use on BRT, namely Internet of Things (IoT)-based sensors in the form of Infrared (IR) sensors to count and detect people entering public transportation, as well as people leaving public transportation. In the application of social distancing on public transportation in the city of Palembang, it was found that the passenger detection device was able to detect incoming and outgoing passengers with an accuracy of 92.3529% in detecting passenger capacity under normal conditions. In fact, the results obtained are very good with accuracy reaching 100% for the condition of calculating the maximum number of passengers. This shows that the detection system is able to count the number of passengers so that it can be implemented on public transportation to help implement social distancing.
