Abstract

Forests, whether formed by plants or formed naturally have a lot of potential, one example is the mahogany plant (Swietenia mahagoni). Recently, a new wilt disease has been reported on mahogany plants with the same symptoms as acacia wilt disease, so it is suspected that this new wilt disease attack was caused by the same pathogen. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about the latest distribution data, incidence and symptoms of new wilt disease on mahogany plants and to find out the pathogens that cause new wilt disease that occurs in mahogany plants. This research is expected to provide information about the symptoms, attacks and knowledge of the pathogens that cause new wilt disease that attacks mahogany plants. This research method begins with determining the location of observation and sampling of mahogany plants that are attacked by new wilt disease by cutting the bark (sapwood) and using the purposive sampling method in five areas of South Sumatra. After further identification, the pathogen was tested by performing the Koch Postulate test to prove that it was true that the pathogen caused wilt disease in mahogany plants. The results obtained were Ceratocystis wilt disease was found to have attacked mahogany plants in the districts of Ogan Ilir, Ogan Kemering Ilir, and Palembang City with an incidence of 2.07% in Unsri, 6.77% in Celika and 0.27% in Jakabaring. There was no wilt attack found in Musi Banyu Asin Regency and Prabumulih City. The results of the isolation of mahogany plants obtained isolates with brownish black colonies and irregular and fibrous colony shapes. After being identified microscopically by looking at the structure of the fungus, these characteristics belong to Ceratocystis sp. Keywords : Swietenia mahagoni, Wilt Disease Attack, Ceratocystis sp.
