Abstract
ABSTRACT Particulate Matter (PM) is particulate matter in the air that floats or particles found in the air including dust, dirt, soot and smoke. These particles are suspended for a long term. Particulate Matter (PM) is one of the largest sources of emissions in ambient air. Particulate Matter (PM) such as PM10 which is contained in the smoke of kemplang baking, can be easily inhaled by kemplang baker and cause various respiratory problems. The purpose of this study was to find out subjective respiratory problems on the kemplang baker in Tebing Gerinting Village, South Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This is a quantitative research with a cross sectional design, with 62 of the kemplang baker samples. The results showed that there was a relationship between age (p-value = 0.004) and subjective respiratory problems on the kemplang baker in Tebing Gerinting Village. Meanwhile, there is no relationship between the concentration of PM 10(p-value = 0.934), years of service (p-value = 0.094), time of exposure (p-value = 0.447), and use of PPE (p-value = 0.141) with subjective respiratory problems on the kemplang baker in Tebing Gerinting Village. It can be concluded that the variable associated with subjective respiratory problems is age. It is recommended that the kemplang baker should use fabric mask. It is also recommended for headman of the village to cooperate with the village midwife, health center and related agencies to conduct counseling on respiratory health in kemplang baker.
