Abstract
The control of pest using insecticide has been known to cause resistance problem, resurgence and the accumulation of pesticide in the harvested crops. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a better and more environmental-friendly pest control measure, such as biological control using entomopathogens, parasitoids and predators. Parasitoid is an insect living as parasite in other insect during its preadult stage (larval stage) while its imago living outside the host. The entomopathogen is microbes infecting insect and causing illness and mortality of the insect. There have been many research on the effectiveness of B. bassiana in infecting insect pest, but there has been no report on the side effects of B. bassiana on natural enemy such as parasitoids. Therefore, it is necessary to research the indirect effects of B. bassiana application on the parasitoid because parasitoid and entomopathogenic fungi are biological control agents effective to suppress the growth of A. gossypii population. This research was aimed at recognizing the impacts of indirect application of B. bassiana on the T. sinensis and Lipolexis sp. The parasitoid of A. gossypii, effect indirect application of B. bassiana on A.gossypii colonies affected the mortality of their larvae developed inside A.gossypii. and effect indirect application of Beauveria bassiana to life table on the Trioxys sinensis and Lipolexis sp. The research was conducted in Entomological Laboratory and Greenhouse, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. Inderalaya from May to October 2010. The research was an experiment with 2 treatments and 20 replications. The treatment was B. bassiana isolates and the control was pure water. The control was replicated 10 times. The treatment of B. bassiana used 106 conidia/ml sprayed onto 500 aphids on chili, while the control used water to sprayed the same number of aphids. The parameters observed were the number of mummies, the parasitoids came out from mummy, pre-adult mortality, ratio, and life span of parasitoid imago applied with B. bassiana. The data analyzed using Chi-Square at 5% of significance level. The results showed that the application if B. bassiana (Bals) Vuill on the A. gossypii colonies on chili did not affect the capacity of parasitoid imago to parasite their host. The application of B. bassiana on A.gossypii colonies affected the mortality of their larvae developed inside A.gossypii, and indirect application of Beauveria bassiana did not effect to life table on the Trioxys sinensis and Lipolexis sex was sp.
