Abstract
In relation to develop oil palm plantation in tidai swampy area, firstly evaluation of soil physical and Chemical properties in the area should be provided to unsure prospective development of oil palm. This research aim is to assess land suitability for plantation expansion of oiJ palm in Mangsang and Muara Merang village of Bayung Lencir sub-district Musi Banyuasin, and to compile recommendation of management for growing oil palm based on actual land suitability. This research is executed with survey method using mgsl with scale 1 : 200.000. Direct observation in field and taking soil samples has been delineated in area of ± 19000 Hectares. Areal of observation isdetermined based on land unit map Lembar Palembang and divided based on Soilmapping unit (SPT) amounting to 5 SPT which are Alluvial (SPT 2, SPT 3 and SPT 5)and Peaty (SPT 1 and SPT 4). Land suitability class is determined of each Soil mapping unit (SPT) for assessment of expansion potential of growing oil palm based on limiting factor. Assessment of Land suitability of SPT 1 (covered to 4.125 ha) and SPT 2 (covered to 2.812 ha) actual land suitability class is N-r mean having drainage hardly is pursued. Land suitability of SPT 3 (covered 317 ha) actual land suitability class is N-w mean having drainage hardly is pursued and element content of very low nutrient. Land suitability class of SPT 4 (covered to 10.393 ha) and SPT 5 (wide 1.353 ha) actual land suitability class is N-n mean having element content of very low nutrient.Actual land suitability at location found is N - r and N - n with very ugly drainage class limiting factor and lacking of element of nutrient. The actual land suitability after giving input is becoming SI (Highly Suitable) The inpute are chainge land. fertilization and living addition.
