Abstract

This thesis is about the survival strategy.The problem raised was about the occurrence of floods in 2016 which caused 95% of chili farming land in Arisan Jaya Village to experience crop failures, of coure it threatened the survival of chili farmer families in Arisan Jaya Village who lost their income to meet household needs. So the fundamental question in this study is how the strategy of of chili farmers during flood in Arisan Jaya Village, Pamulutan Barat District, Ogan Ilir District.This research is a descriptive qualitative research with chili farmer family heads in Arisan Jaya Village as a unit of analysis whose chili farms experience crop failure due to floods that occurred in 2016.The theory used in this study is survival strategies concept according to (Suharto, 2009) which suggests that survival strategies are divided into three types, that are active strategy, passive strategy and network strategy.The results of this study indicate that the survival strategy carried out by chilli farmers during flood in Arisan Jaya Village is applying the three concepts of the strategy.The Active Strategy that is carried out is by utilizing all potentials with the capabilities that are owned by increasing other employment sectors, increasing working hours and employing family members. The passive strategy that is applied is by saving on household expenses, which saves food, clothing, shelter, education and health. The network strategy that is carried out is by utilizing the social networks that are owned.The social network that participated in the problem of the survival strategy of chili farmers when there was a flood in Arisan Jaya Village in 2016 are a network of family/neighbors, government networks and student networks.
