Abstract
The goals of this research is to analyze the subject matter of hydrocarbon compounds on XI grade of senior high school textbooks based on the criteria of 4S TMD (Four Steps Teaching Material Development) selection stage. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative using content analysis method. There are three criteria on the 4S TMD selection stage. Based on the criteria for conformity with curiculum as seen from the breadht of the subject matter, on textbook A there are 2 subject matters that are declared too broad. While on textbook B, there is 1 subject matter that is declared too broad. Seen from the depth of the concept, on textbook A there is 1 concept that is declared less depth and 1 concept that is declared too depth. While on textbook B, there are 3 concepts that are declared less depth and nothing concept that is declared too depth. Based on the criteria for the correctness of the concept, on textbook A there is 1 concept that is declared to be incorrect based on science. While on textbook B all concepts are declared to be scientifically correct. Based on the criteria for cultivation of values, on textbook A there are 8 values, namely religious, tolerance, discipline, hard work, curiosity, respect for achievement, friendly/communicative, and fond of reading. While on textbook B there are 9 values, namely honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, independent, curiosity, respect for achievement, friendly/communicative, and fond of read.
