Abstract
Since entomopathogenic nematodes, i.e. Steinernema spp. studied intensively to be effective against various insect pests, a bioassays has been carried out to determine the pathogenecity of Steinernema as biological control armyworm (Spodoptera litura) This experiment has been conducted at Nematology Laboratory, Department of Plant and Diseases Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Have been on from December 2006 to March 2007. Disc of spinach has been located in petridish. Six armyworm larvae in instar 3 stage have been infested on to surface of disc. Nematodes isolates that have been kept in 25oC room storage are inoculated then on to surface of each larval body by 30, 45, 60, and 75 nematodes. No nematode has been applied for control. After 24 and 48 hours all dead larvae are counted. For effective time treatment 30 nematodes have been applied. Obrservations have been done every 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 hours after applications Results showed that the effective dosage was 35.59 nematodes per larvae. Lethal dosage (LD50) for first day experiment was 51.78 (44.44 } 60.13) nematode per larva, and (LD50) for second day was 35.59 (28.73 ± 41.32) nematode per larvae.
