Abstract
This study survey are to identify and study the water and farming systems and make recommendations in Banyu Urip Village (P17-6S), Delta Telang II, District ofBanyuasin, South Sumatra Province. This study used survey method with an area of 256 ha, followed bydescriptive methods presented in the form of tables, graphs or images that representdata and observations on each study site. The observations made in the villagecanals (SPD), the main drainage canals (SDU), and tertiary canals, while the dataabout farming gained by direct interviews with farmers. Some soil physicalproperties (color, texture, pH) which represents an area of 256 ha were also determined. Soil sampling was done with a total of 16 soil samples taken ffom two tertiaries. The sampling is divided into four observation points for each one tertiary block. Each of the sampling are taken at layer 1 and layer 2 (two soil layers). The results showed that the water management system in the village of Banyu Urip (P17-6S) is a comb system. The distance between the two tertiaries is 400 meters. Micro water management system in P17-6S Banyu Urip is not functioning properly due to lack of water gates and culverts, sedimentation, weeds in the canals, and in-active Farmer Water User Association. Rice is planted only once a year, witha 4-months variety. Farming activities started in September until February, with rice production of 5-7 tons dry harvest / ha. Agriculture in this study relies more on rainwater than water from irrigation and drainage canals that are not able to convey thewater on to the land. Soil texture is mostly clay with a pH of 5.Management and maintenance strategies which can be done at the siteinclude the maintenance of canals and water control structures, activiation of theFarmers Group Farmers Water User Association, and the implementation of farmingsystem technologies.
