Abstract

This manuscript is written based on the research aiming to get Information of soil physic, soil chemistry and to evaluation of land suitability for food crop, plantation and horticulture plant on dry land bordering with peat soil in Belanti Village SP. Padang District Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. Soil analysis was done at Laboratory of Soil Chemistry, Fertility and Biology Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This research was done from November 2007 to January 2008.This research used survey method at detail level, using district map at 1 : 75.000. The determining of observation was done with grid system or with interval at 100 m. The total area of the research was 10 ha with 10 of observation, from which drillings were done until 120 cm depth. Composite soil samples were taken from 0 - 30 cm for analysis at the Laboratory.The estimation of existing land suitability for food crop in research units consists of existing land suitability for paddy and com plant. The existing land suitability for paddy plant were divided into 4 units, these are S2f (4,7 Ha), S2fii (2,0 Ha), S2n (0,9 Ha) and S3f (2,4 Ha), and the existing land suitability for com plant were divided into 5 units, here are S2f (3,2 Ha), S2fii (3,6 Ha), S2n (1,3 Ha), S3f (1,0 Ha) and S3fii (0,9 Ha).The estimation of existing land suitability for plantation in research units consists of existing land suitability for palm oil and rubber. The existing landsuitability for palm oil plant were divided into 5 units, these are S2f (2,8 Ha), S2fn (3,9Ha), S2n (1,3 Ha), S3f (0,8 Ha) and S3fii (1,2 Ha), and the existing land suitability forrubber plant were divided into 2 units, these are S2w (5,7 Ha), and S2wn (4,3 Ha).The estimation of existing land suitability for horticulture in research unitsconsists of existing land suitability for orange and chilli. The existing land suitabilityfor orange plant were divided into 5 units, these are S2f (2,8 Ha), S2fii (3,7 Ha), S2n (1,2 Ha), S3f (0,8 Ha) and S3fn (1,5 Ha), and the existing land suitability for chilli plant were divided into 4 units, these are S2f (2,8 Ha), S2fn (4,2 Ha), SI (1,3 Ha) and S3f (1,7 Ha).The potential land suitability for paddy, com, palm oil, orange and chilli are SI (very suitable) and rubber plant is S2w (suitable).The existing land suitabilities for paddy, com, palm oil, orange and chilli be improved changed into potential land suitabilities by liming and i availability of nutrient with fertilizer and the input for rubber plant only i availability of nutrient in the soil with fertilizer, but the another factor can’t change or improve so the land suitability for rubber plant is S2w.
