Abstract

The experiment was conducted in Phytopathological Laboratory and Greenhouse, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University in April to September 2006. The objective ofthe research was to know the ability of isolates Trichoderma and Penicillium from swampy soil against damping-off on pepper seedling caused by Rhizoctonia solani Khun. The experiment was fourteen isolates of Trichoderma and ten isolates of Penicillium. Data was described as tabulation. The results showed that isolates of Penicillium had a various ability in suppression damping-off at pre-emergence damping-off, post-emergence dampingoff and severity, while isolates of Trichoderma more consistent Average of suppression persentage values of pre-emergence damping-off by isolates of Penicillium were 45.04% around 13.89-91.67%, while in isolates of Trichoderma were 91.93% around 51.80-100%. The average of suppression persentage values of post-emergence damping-off by isolates of Penicillium were 72.82% around 0.00-72.84% and isolates of Trichoderma were 92.07% around 80.00-100%. The average of a ability in suppression at severity by isolates of Penicillium were 39.04% around 0.00-77.47% and isolates of Trichoderma were 87.58% around 51.90-96.96%, respectively. The ability of Penicillium and Trichoderma not only suppress damping-off, but also increase plants grovvth. The average persentage of increasing high and fresh weight of pepper and 42.37% around 0.00-72.84%, respectively and isolates of Trichoderma were 54.50% around 45.45-64.37% and 67.88% around 37.78-81.19%, respectively.
